So Did You Watch It?

I watched CBS's 9/11, you know, the one that wasn't a right-wing based "docu-drama" filled with lies and half-truths like ABC's Path to 9/11.

I think, any of you who truly know me, know I cried like a baby.

And what really pisses me off to no end is the fact that the American Family Association said CBS's show "contains much obscene language." It didn't. Yeah, there were a few "fucks," maybe an "ass," a "shit" or two... In fact, if you can't understand Brooklyn-eese, you probably heard "fookin'," a "shat" or two, and "ass" only once that I can remember.

This is what the AFA was upset about. They don't even mention the fact that ABC's so-called "docu-drama" shouldn't be taken seriously, and that much of the show was fictionalized. They don't say a word about it. I guess they're happy with right-wing half-truths--Lord knows the AFA tells enough.

But I think what is scarier than everything isn't the fact that their children would be seeing what religious extremism can lead to; it wasn't the fact that they'd be talking about people who died trying to save lives; that they talked about death, the fires, the exhaustion, the brave people from all over the country who pulled together at this time of crisis to help each other. No, the AFA was upset that the FCC might not fine CBS for the obscenities, and that their kids might hear the word "fuck." They even tried that "slippery slope" shit on their website, stating that "the 'in context' argument that CBS is using to allow the profanity would allow any network to show explicit sex in airing a documentary about pornography." [Paraphrase; it's late and didn't have time to look it up on their website; feel free to look for it yourself.]
I've made a decision: I'm going to look into running for a public office. I don't know if it will lead to anything; it very well may not. But I no longer will be content to bitch from the sidelines. I'm going to be e-mailing some people this week, maybe make a few phone calls depending on feedback I get from the e-mails...

No, Mom, I will not cause a civil war in this country... I will be trying to start a revolution. I'm tired of the deceit, the lies, the fact that we are now engaged in two wars, both of which were fucked-up from the get-go; that oil companies still get tax-breaks while making record profits and Americans pay three times as much as they did ten short years ago; that politicians look out for whoever can give them money, and not the American people who elected them. I'm tired of cheap promises; "the way things work in D.C."; I'm sick of being a second-class citizen, someone who works hard to pay his taxes, pay his bills, make ends meet, hope maybe to try to get a ahead just a little bit, yet I get shafted when I can't marry the one I love; I'm sick of the "my job is hard" whining of the supposed commander-in-chief; STOP WHINING ABOUT HOW HARD YOUR FUCKING JOB IS AND DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE!!!!! WE KNOW IT'S HARD--SO IS TRYING TO RAISE A FAMILY WHEN YOU CAN'T MAKE ENDS MEET WITH EVEN TWO INCOMES!!!!!!!!!! PEOPLE FUCKING ELECTED YOU (THE SECOND TIME AROUND--CERTAINLY NOT THE FIRST!!!!) FOR WHO KNOWS WHAT REASON, AND ALL YOU DO IS WHINE!!!!

I'm fucking sick of it.

I'm sick of you, Bush.

I don't know whether I'll even be considered "electable," especially since I'm not a church-goer, and that's a huge thing with the American people. But I'm going to try.

I'm tired of sitting, like the rest of America, and doing nothing but complain about our broken system.

I'm going to try to fix it.

I don't know how yet. But I'm going to try.
Does anyone know if they make a book called Running for Public Office for Dummies?

It is extremely disrespectful to use that kind of language when speaking to your mother or even on a post you know she will read - you truly are a low-class person.

to the anonymours person: this is jasons mom and i have you know my son is not low-class!!!! i am so angry at you for saying that since you DO NOT know him and if you want to get to know him maybe you should read his "blog" and maybe you will see his heart. jason, if you run for any office if i can i will vote for you!! :) love and prayers

Well, there you go, anonymous--frmo the lips of my mother--and thanks Mom for your vote of confidence!

Why do you find the language so offensive? Why is it "low-class"?

You need to rethink the meaning of words, their intent, and your overall attitude toward them.

Anonymous said...

Ahhh, so the low-class remark extends to the whole family.

I don't particularly care for the F* bomb myself, but there is such a thing called freedom of expression. At least Jason isn't hiding behind an ANONYMOUS name while saying it!

Jason - I too have been feeling the pull of a "higher calling". I also don't know where I want to start yet, but political office must be in my future.

I also have fears of being publicly criticized for who I am: an atheist, a divorcee, a single mother... because through political eyes, that is not a person who is good enough, faithful enough, or smart enough to know anything about ethics or community. It's a prejudice I'm willing to stand up to though.

Hold your head up, Jason. You have important ideas to share and I for one would hate to see the system intimidate you. Make a difference any way you can!

Excuse me?? You just called my mother "low-class"? What are you, in 9th grade? Do your parents know you're using their computer? You should probably get their permission before adding your two cents to something that is obviously way over your head.

Perhaps you don't like words like Fuck, Shit, Ass, and Bitch, and that's certainly your perogative, but language use is never a sign of one's "class."

Snobbery, however, is.

I dare say, you may be part of the very problem I'm bitching about, but tough talk from an anonymous viewpoint is the lowest form of cowardice there is.

So I may be low-class, but you are a shit-faced coward.

I ask again (or perhaps your brain can't function at so deep a level), what is it about the words that offends you so? I could say "Darn" or "Crap," but the meaning behind the words would be the same, and if one is going for a point, substituting words for simpering dolts is something I just won't do. If you don't like it, you can go "sexually molest" yourself.

Dar: Thanks for your comments. I hope you follow that urge to do something; you, too, have a beautiful mind and a great many ideas that could do a lot of good for our world. I hope you, as well, don't let the preconceived notions hold you back from being everything you can!

this is for the person that i guess is to ashame to let us all know who they are and just called me low-class...i didn't know certain words go only for low-class. i heard those words from ALL classes and for your information i can count on ONE hand when i used any of those words you are saying is low class!! before you put anyone down you better get to KNOW the person before you make any judgements and even than you might find you can't throw rocks either! i usually sign off with love and prayers but right now i am so angry i can't say those WORDS and mean them for you. dar this is for you i would vote for you also if i can! :) love and prayers to you jason

So, would it make any difference to you if I put my name? You dont know me, but since it is so important to you - my name is David. Now, does that make you feel better? You have a blog, so I assume you are interested in people reading it and commenting. And, yes, while you may choose not to believe it, language is a sign of class. Maybe I am a snob, but I am a snob with a vocabulary that extends beyond everyday common trash language. Your mother may vote for you (what mother wouldnt vote for their own child?), but she could not vote for you and claim to be a Christian. A Christian cannot vote for a gay person and claim the name of God. While I dont exactly agree with all the fundamentals out there, I know that the Bible is against homosexuality. If your mother claims to be a Christian, how can she vote for someone who denies and violates the God she supposedly worships? Does not make sense. I am not saying that just because you are gay she should turn her back on you, but I am saying that she should in no way condone your lifestyle. I have to say that I came across your blog a few days ago and became interested in a couple of posts, but overall it is simply a bunch of "I hate the world", "I make fun of people who do not believe as I do", etc., etc. I think you should rething this whole idea of a blog unless you are really ready to hear the truth about yourself. Also, have you noticed that there are only a few people who comment and they stroke your ego because they are just like you? Time for a bit of soul-searching here. Mom needs to search her soul as well. Maybe a look at the Bible would be in order before she endorses any atheist or gay candidates for office. Just my opinion.

David, David, David--thank you for your cookie-cutter responses. At least you are willing to own up to your words finally!

My mother doesn't condone my lifestyle--far from it! But she does know I am a good person who always tries (but doesn't always succeed) in doing the right thing...

And where do you get the "I hate the world" thing? I hate the fundamentalist mind set--which certainly isn't the world!

There are actually a number of people I disagree with and have civil conversations with--but you don't want to hear or see that, do you? That would make it harder for you to generalize me as "low-class," wouldn't it?

You said: If your mother claims to be a Christian, how can she vote for someone who denies and violates the God she supposedly worships? Does not make sense.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume a lot of the world doesn't make sense to you, then, does it? What makes you think your take on the "good book" is any better or worse than her take on it? Have you even read, within context and with a knowledgeable working history, what your book actually says about homosexuality? Again, just a guess, but I'm thinking no, or else you wouldn't be so quick to hop on the bandwagon of "Homosexuality is bad!" Not saying I'm an expert or anything--far from it! But your sweeping generalizations, your quick-to-condemn judgments, and your overall lack of people skills tell much about you, Dave.

Perhaps you'll just blow all this off as stuff-and-nonsense, maybe you won't. But it's a lot easier to respect a person willing to put a name behind their words, wouldn't you say?

You said: I think you should rething this whole idea of a blog unless you are really ready to hear the truth about yourself.
So enlighten me--what is the truth about myself?

You said: Also, have you noticed that there are only a few people who comment and they stroke your ego because they are just like you?
Yes, random people such as yourself do boost my ego. Yes, like attracts like. I lot of the people I link to talk about things I agree with, endorse, and so on. I also link and visit sites that challenge my preconceived notions--and I challenge them on theirs as they challenge me on mine. Perhaps none of us will ever budge. But we're all always learning something new and exciting! But they do not come saying, "Oh, I hope Jason like me! I hope, I hope, I hope he likes me! Let me stroke his ego! Please, no, let me stroke his ego!!" You have a lot to learn about how people work, David. Not everyone is shallow, not everyone is seeking approval, not everyone is happy with the status quo, and not everyone will always agree or be happy with differing viewpoints. And as it is my blog, I can make fun of whomever I want and when--you are welcome to sit here and do the same! I dare say, though, most of it isn't "making fun"--it is pointing out hypocrisy and its ludicrousness, it is pointing out beliefs others hold and why I agree or disagree, with a healthy dose of common sense and sarcasm... did you not pick up on any of that?

You said: Time for a bit of soul-searching here. Mom needs to search her soul as well. Maybe a look at the Bible would be in order before she endorses any atheist or gay candidates for office. Just my opinion.
And it is duly noted. Just want to point something out--the self-professed Christian presently in office (i.e., Bush) has dragged our soldiers off to unnecessary wars, lied to the people, broken the law, made the rich richer and told the poor that they're on their own...

In my opinion, my country would be a lot better off with less Christians like him, and more like Bill, Cori, Dabich, Tom, my mother, and many other loving, well-meaning Christians who visit this blog, disagree with me on a loving, intelligent level, than ones like Bush and yourself...

But again, that's just my opinion...

Well, Jason, you have your opinions (twisted as they are) and I have mine - guess we will just agree to disagree. But, I do need to let you know that the Bible, which is what I am assuming you are calling "my book" (which is actually funny you should call it "my book" - you have no idea)does completely denounce homosexuality. There is no possible way you can deny this. I have studied world religions for many years and I believe that I probably have a little more knowledge of the Greek and Hebrew than the average person - I have 2 degrees in these subjects, so your argument that the Bible condones homosexuality is completely false. It would take me too much time to prove it to you and it really isnt worth the effort because you would just argue the opposite anyway in order to make your lifestyle seem simply misunderstood. You should know, that while I dont consider myself a religious person, I do believe that the Bible is accurate in its accounts of what Jesus said and requires of his followers. I also believe that the prophecies in the Bible are without fail, which is bad news for you. I am not trying to sound "all Godly" but I have studied the scriptures (not only the Bible but many others as well) for years and I will tell you that the Bible is the only account that produced fulfilled prophecies, which means that homosexuals are in major trouble if they dont change and repent before the second coming. That is not my opinion, but the opinion of God recorded in the best seller he wrote.

My lifestyle as "misunderstood"? Common sense will tell you we are not afforded equality in the civil spectrum of our society. (Remeber, we are a seclar country, not a religious theocracy) I could care less what religious folk say about my "lifestyle," which consists of working, paying taxes, watching television, reading books, hanging out with friends and family--pretty much everything you do with the exception of living with someone who also has a penis. Boy, what a wicked lifestyle I lead! Stop the press: Homosexuals Lead Normal Lives: Film at Eleven! What they believe only has bearing on my life when they try to make everyone else live by their beliefs when a society as diverse as ours should be respectful of all beliefs and way s of life that don't infringe on anothers...

I'm glad to see you have at least studied the ancient book, despite our differing takes on it. And the whole "prophecy" thing you seem to think you've pointed out as a "clinching" argument? Prophecy hasn't been any more fulfilled from the bible than Nostrodamus. You can look back at anything written then and say it was "prophetic." That certainyl doesn't make it so, although you are more than welcome to believe it is.

Only time will tell.

Oh, and "there is no way I could possibly deny this"? Of course there is, you silly man! Just as you deny my thoughts and beliefs as "twisted," I dismiss your conclusions and thoughts as "silly."

I will agree to disagree, insomuch as possible, but just because you say it means one thing doesn't make ti the end-all be-all of the discussion--it just means you no longer find it worth the time to flesh out. It's good to see christians willing to fight for the souls they're supposed to be winning for their god...

Anonymous Dave,
Jason and I are as diametrically opposite as humanly possible. I am an evangelical Christian who opposes homosexuality with every fiber of my existence.
But with that said, I need to comment on the fact that your choice of verbiage in making your comments was not in the Christian Spirit. Calling someone a “low-class person” and then extending that moniker to his mother of all people was not a very nice thing to do.
I don’t like his use of the “F” word either, but dude, it’s his blog and he can express himself in any way he feels fit. If it offends you, don’t read it.
As for your defense of his mom, well, I’ve never met anyone from his family, but I have a feeling that she doesn’t really need anyone to stand up for her. I think that if she needed to “smack” (figuratively, of course) one of her kids, for back talking; I bet she would do it.
Is coming on someone’s blog, as a guest, and then insulting him AND his mom, really a good way to get him to accept the loving spirit of Jesus? I think there are better ways to present the Gospel and the loving gift of salvation that Jesus offers to everyone.
Once you’ve insulted someone and their mom, while visiting their space, I kind of think that any message you have, will pretty much be rejected offhand.
Still praying for you Jason.

Hey Dave! I'd like to welcome you to Ja's "low class" family! LOL Idiot...insulting our mom. That's pretty low. It's like those distasteful jokes that start out as "Your mom is so fat...." or "Your mom is so dumb..." I bet you tell those, don't you? And I would put money on the fact that all your "friends" just laugh because they love to "stroke your ego."
Get over yourself, Dave...
