As For My Next Vacation...

I'll tell you all about Aruba later on this weekend (if you care), but as for my next vacation?
California ban on same-sex marriage struck down:

In a much-anticipated ruling issued Thursday, the California Supreme Court struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage as unconstitutional.

Several gay and lesbian couples, along with the city of San Francisco and gay rights groups, sued to overturn state laws allowing only marriages between a man and a woman.

"There can be no doubt that extending the designation of marriage to same-sex couples, rather than denying it to all couples, is the equal protection remedy that is most consistent with our state's general legislative policy and preference," said the 120-page ruling.

It said that the state law's language "limiting the designation of marriage to a 'union between a man and a woman' is unconstitutional, and that the remaining statutory language must be understood as making the designation of marriage available to both opposite-sex and same-sex couples."

With the ruling, California becomes the second state to allow same-sex couples to legally wed. Massachusetts adopted the practice in 2004, and couples don't need to be state residents to wed there.
"End-of-the-world" scenarios from fundies may now commence...

Massachusetts isn't far away if you and Rich decide you want to do it ;)

By the way, I noticed your pic you posted, and DAYUM, you're a hottie. Rich is lucky!

Unfortunately, Massachusetts has a law on the books from 1914 (originally used to keep interracial couples from marrying) that says of your state doesn't allow the marriage, you can't come there to get married...

Leave it to the Republican leaders in Massachusetts to dig up an old Jim Crow law and use it against the gays... "Family values" and all that crap...

It's the main reason I highlighted that one sentence from the article--California has no such laws, so therefore, we CAN go there to get married... YIPPIE!!

I'll fill everyone in on Aruba in a few days, gotta lot of work to catch up on, but I'll nutshell for now and say "FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!!"

Hugs!

AWESOME! Its about time these families have the same rights as everyone else! They have children and huoses and everything else, why deny them the same rights! This has nothing to do with straight peoples marriage agenda, but it should make straight people think about getting divorces as much as they do at a rate of 79% in America!! Maybe the straight people can learn and see what its like to have true meaningful love for one another have to fight for it! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

So would you all then agree that polygamy should be legal? It is a Yes/No question. Should a man be allowed to have multiple wives?

Jason Hughes said...

Yes...

Provided they are all consenting adults of sound mind and of legal age. Why should polygamy be an issue as long as it IS consenting adults, there is no abuse, and everyone is of sound mind and able to make such a decision for themselves?

Legislating morality is a very immoral position for a government to take, especially if that government is supposed to be secular.

Well that is refreshing to hear Jason. I honestly do not condone either of them, but as an American I understand this infringes on peoples rights. I asked because I have done this with others that believe in same-sex marriage, however, most of them seem to believe that polygamy should be illegal, which is an obvious double standard. I do not feel threatened by homosexuality, however I would have to think twice for say my future child to go over to a same-sex home and play with their child. I would not say no necessarily, I would just need to think about it. Here is the other double standard, I say something like that and I am labeled as homophobic. The gay community is so quick to call people who oppose their views bigots, when they themselves suffer from the same disease. Just like you cannot attack O'bama without being called a racist, you cannot criticize the gay comm. without being called a homophobe. In other words, as a young, straight, white male, I feel that anything I say that could be deemed critical of some one or some thing would be immediately turned on me, then I would be labeled with some derogatory name. Unfortunately these are the tactics used by both the civil rights activists and gay activists. Hope this makes any sense, I'm trying not to be long winded. I came from a traditional family and firmly believe that having a mother and father helps bring up a more balanced child. Just my 2 cents.

hello jason! you mean you really want to go to california instead of las vegas just so you can get married? for a piece of paper saying your married? you can do that next year when i am not so close to getting on a plane to go out to las vegas with you all, ok?!?! you know i am thinking about this and it might be just be cheaper really to just live together than to be married since dad says he could live a lot cheaper if he wasn't married. :) and why would any sane man want to be married to more than one wife?? and if i was a woman i would not want to share my man!! no matter what any so called other person saids God would want. i agree with jasons answer up to a point but i really think that old saying 'to many cooks in a kitchen' is something these people are thinking about when more than l wife comes into the picture. why are they really wanting to have more than one wife? i can understand the gay thing alot more than the polygamy thing. i think those women should turn the tables and ask for another husband and see what he does than! :) i would love to be a fly on the wall than. well, getting back to the las vegas thing or the california thing, california does not have the big hole in the ground and i want to see that big hole again!! i want to share it with you and rich and sylvia and john!! california is heading for the ocean and i don't want to be there when it does. you are married in your heart not on a piece of a paper. that why God made lawyers so you can pay them to get your rights. :) snort :) glad your back. love and prayers ps i love the wind chimes! i have one on the lower deck and the other one on the upper deck. my sand is in my forever summer room. thank you for the gifts!

hello jason! another reason you should go out to las vegas first before california is that you can have you or rich dress as a woman and than have elvis marry you. you would not be able to fine elvis in calfornis. :) the real elvis is only in las vegas! all the other ones are fake. :) now that is a great reson to make your next vacation in las vegas and not in calfornia. you guys can do the whole legal thing next year after i had my fill of plane rides. i hate to fly. if God wanted me to fly He would of made me with wings. :) i mean that. :) did you change your mind yet??? :) love and prayers
